We are just a day away from the Premier League season and some non-traditional futures markets are developing with weekend kickoffs on the horizon.
BetMGM opened up odds on the relegation market, with bettors quickly flocking to one club: Everton. The Toffees had a tumultuous season last season when they were favored to be relegated to the Championship at some point.
Solid form and poor play from Burnley and Leeds United allowed Everton to have some breathing room until the end of the season, but punters are unsure if the club will be safe again.
One of the squad’s most prolific players, Richarlison, joined Tottenham earlier in the summer and no other significant additions were made.
Everton opened at +500 to be relegated this year, but a whopping 31.1% of the ticket percentage and 37.4% of the handle went to manager Frank Lampard’s team, bringing his tally to +350 odds.
Another EPL club that narrowly escaped relegation a season ago, Leeds are another favorite in the relegation market.
After opening at +240 to go down, Leeds are down to +200 after receiving 13.3% of tickets and 8.4% of handle at Elland Road Club.
Newly promoted teams Nottingham Forest (+120) and Fulham (+120) have the second-highest ticket and handle percentages.
Betting on the top scorers
In terms of a more positive angle, bettors are looking for repeat winners for this season’s Golden Boot repeat.
The league’s top scorer award has been won by Son Heung-min, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy in previous seasons. Each player received a solid action to win again.
Kane (+550) has taken the most action with a ticket percentage of 19.7% and a handle of 42.5%, while Salah (+450) is second with 18.1% and 11.1%.
Gabriel Jesus (+1000), Manchester City’s Arsenal signing, is next in the market with 17.3% of bets and 21.3% of handles.
His replacement, Erling Haaland (+225), is the favorite for the award but the new Manchester City striker has amassed just 9.4% of tickets and 5.0% of handles.
