US stocks ended the week higher, with all three major indexes making progress for the week.
Stocks rose on Friday after Thursday’s mini-freakout, as the S&P 500 snapped a winning streak following a lackluster Treasury auction and a warning from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that victory over inflation was not assured.
U.S. stocks ended broadly higher. The S&P 500, Dow Industrials and Nasdaq all rose more than 1.2%. The Dow gained almost 400 points. All 11 sectors of the S&P 500 were in the green.
The bond markets stabilized. The yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds fell slightly. It settled at 4.627%, just slightly below its 4.629% level late Thursday.
Earnings reports weighed on some stocks. Illumina, Trade Desk and Plug Power all fell after reporting quarterly results.
Oil prices rose. Brent crude rose 1.8% to settle at $81.43 a barrel and was up about 4% for the week. Energy stocks also rose.
Bitcoin was just below $37,000 as of 5:00 p.m. ET. The cryptocurrency rallied on hopes that the US would approve Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, posting its highest daily close since May 2022 on Thursday.
US markets were open as usual on Friday, with Veterans Day falling on Saturday this year.
Correction: The Nasdaq Composite Index rose more than 1% around midday. An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the price had increased by more than 5%.
