In Monday’s trading session in local markets, the top 40 ended the day down 1.51%. The Resources 10 sector was down 2.18%, the Financial 15 was down 1.67%, the Industrial 25 was down 1% and finally the South African Listed Property Index was down 0.95%. The rand was trading at 16.83 rand against the dollar, 19.72 rand against the pound and 16.85 rand against the euro. Yesterday, private sector credit in South Africa in July 2022 rose 7.09% yoy, below market expectations of 7.28% and after growing 7.53% the month before. This morning, Old Mutual released its interim results showing total earnings per share growth of more than 60% and an announced dividend of 25 cents per share. Harmony Gold announced its full year results, operating free cash flow fell 55% and declared a final dividend of 22 cents per share. The Super Group delivered its annual financial report, EBITDA rose 69.8% and declared a dividend of 63 cents per share.

On the commodity front, Brent crude is trading at $104.69 a barrel and WTI crude is trading at $97.17 a barrel. Gold Spot is currently trading at $1733.68. Platinum Spot is now trading at $857.70 and Palladium Spot is finally trading at $2148.

Globally, the S&P 500 ended the day down 0.67%, the Dow Jones down 0.57% and the Nasdaq down 0.96%. The FTSE 100 closed down 0.7%, the DAX down 0.6% and the CAC40 down 0.83%. In Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 is currently trading 1.14% higher and the Hang Seng 0.55% lower.
