S&P 500 earnings are down year over year
Factset data shows that S&P 500 gains are on track for a year-over-year decline, with about 85% of benchmark index results reporting results so far.
Based on the combined growth metric, EPS is on track to fall 2.4% year over year, with the materials sector posting the largest decline at 25.7%.
According to Factset, about 79% of companies that report earnings have beaten EPS expectations, while just over 74% have beaten revenue estimates
