FRANKFURT, Sept 20 (Reuters) – Stada’s private equity owners are close to engaging investment banks to sell or take the German generic drug maker public, Handelsblatt reported on Wednesday, citing financial sources.

The company, which has been majority owned by buyout firms Bain and Cinven since 2017, sells consumer health products such as painkillers and sunscreen lotions, as well as biosimilars and generics, which are cheaper copies of established drugs that have lost patent protection.

Stada declined to comment. A spokesman for Cinven could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Handelsblatt report said that the most likely option for now would be to sell a minority stake in Stada to a third investor. Stada could be valued at up to 15 billion euros in a transaction.
