As TRSDC moves forward with construction, the focus shifts to the physical and mental well-being of employees
RIYADH: The Red Sea Development Co. is moving forward with its construction plans as it intends to have its first hotels on the site this year.
Thousands of workers and employees mobilize to the destination and TRSDC makes sure they are all safe.
As the United Nations commemorates World Health Day on April 7, TRSDC reiterated its commitment to focus on the well-being of its employees.
TRSDC’s efforts to protect its employees from COVID-19 were spearheaded by Brian Spraker, Head of Health and Safety, while Julie Parisien, Senior Portfolio Strategy Director, managed the strategy for operating new hospitals in the Red Sea area. Spraker stressed that safe practices are at the core of TRSDC’s business philosophy, where the physical and mental well-being of employees is paramount.
TRSDC was incorporated as a closed joint stock company wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

The company was founded to develop and promote a new international luxury tourism destination that will set new standards for sustainable development and create the next generation of luxury travel.
Announced in July 2017, the project is one of three giga projects to diversify the Saudi economy in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision.
TRSDC officials, fully aware of the threat posed by COVID-19 to their workforce, have made significant strides on the ground to keep this pandemic at bay.
More than 15,000 workers are now on site and the company has awarded over 800 contracts valued at over SR20 billion (US$5.3 billion) to date.
“We were able to keep our staff safely on site, which allowed construction to proceed as planned. To ensure everyone has enough space for social distancing, we have moved a portion of the workers to temporary accommodation outside of our construction village, including four local schools,” Spraker said.

A phased approach was taken to mobilizing staff to return to the office once the lockdown was lifted.
In addition to conducting mass on-site PCR screening during the early stages of the pandemic, TRSDC implemented a robust training and communication process to educate its staff, including two company-wide webinars hosted by International SOS. Nearly all 16,000 workers at the sites have been fully vaccinated as part of the company’s protection program.
For her part, Parisien gave details of contracts awarded to Steward alf Global Health Co. to operate a major hospital in the area.
“TRSDC awarded the operating contract for a major new hospital to Steward alf Global Healthcare Co., a joint venture of Alf Healthcare, the healthcare arm of Saudi Arabia-based Alfanar, a renowned developer and operator of large-scale public-private partnership projects and the leading international healthcare provider Steward Health Care International,” said Parisien.

She added: “Steward alf Global Healthcare Co. combines Alfanar’s local experience with international best practices from Steward Health Care International, guaranteeing the best possible medical care.”
The hospital will provide primary and secondary care, including emergency care, family medicine, radiology, clinical support, women’s health and pharmacy services, to the community of 14,000 people who work locally and later to visitors to the Red Sea. According to the company, the aim is to develop a highly efficient and patient-oriented hospital.

“A hyperbaric chamber also operates as an integral part of the facility’s emergency department, providing world-class firstline treatment for diving accidents such as decompression sickness,” said Parisien.
The hospital will employ around 300 to 400 people. “The development maximizes employment opportunities for local Saudi nationals as part of TRSDC’s broader alignment with the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision. With a mission to develop local talent, Steward alf Global Healthcare Co. will provide continuous professional development, telemedicine and community education for local Saudi residents,” Parisien said.
