NYU, DTCC Partner for Cybersecurity and Resiliency

NYU Center for Cybersecurity and DTCC work together to create a comprehensive cybersecurity and resilience program

new York, September 7, 2022 – NYU Tandon School of Engineering, a global leader in technical research and education, and The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the leading post-trade markets infrastructure for the global financial services industry, today announced a new partnership for advancement the capabilities of the NYU Center for Cybersecurity (CCS). The collaboration will leverage DTCC’s nearly five decades of technology, resilience and cybersecurity expertise to support the new program.

The School’s five-year vision for partnering with DTCC includes proposals to expand the Center for Cybersecurity to include a key area of expertise in resilience, to strengthen the Center’s reputation as a hub for thought leaders, attract world-class researchers, and produce a new generation of experts on Cybersecurity and Resilience, with a particular focus on designs, solutions and technologies to make systems more resilient to ever-evolving threats.

The partnership will be built on three pillars – research, education and human resource development, and dissemination and outreach – and aims to expand the pool of PhD students. Students conducting research on cybersecurity and resilience at NYU Tandon and provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the field. It will also design and develop resilience curricula for undergraduate and graduate students, and generate collaborations and events between academia, industry and government to expand the talent and research generated by the partnership.

The partnership comes at an important time as the volume, speed and variety of cybersecurity attacks worldwide reflects the proliferation of connected devices, advances in extended reality systems, AI, telecommunications and global supply chains powered by the internet. At the same time, organizations around the world are focused on improving their resiliency capabilities to effectively respond to and recover from disruptive events, including cybersecurity incidents, supply chain, third party, application and platform events. Today there is a shortage of cybersecurity and resilience professionals with hands-on training and immersion in cutting-edge research and technology to address these challenges.

“This partnership with a recognized leading organization responsible for protecting global markets and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system will give our students and researchers access to invaluable expertise in cybersecurity and resilience,” said Jelena Kovačević, Dean of the NYU Tandon. “It will also train them in the tools and technologies that will enable them to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated threats. With its immense know-how pool, DTCC will accelerate the development of talent in both research and science.”

Lynn Bishop, Managing Director and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at DTCC said, “NYU Tandon and the Center for Cybersecurity have an impressive track record of educating cybersecurity leaders and developing groundbreaking research. This partnership will build on NYU Tandon’s respective strengths by enabling DTCC to share its IT know-how with the cybersecurity and resiliency professionals of tomorrow, providing them with real-world knowledge and scenarios based on deep domain expertise and our pioneering work at using new technologies.”

DTCC will continue its long-term support of CS4CS through the NYU Tandon Center for K12 STEM Education, as well as the annual efforts of Cybersecurity Awareness Worldwide. This latest initiative will help build a vertically integrated project team as well as other ongoing programs.
