What is an IPO?

IPO stands for Initial Public Offering. An IPO is the process by which a private company offers its shares to the public for the first time, allowing it to raise capital from public investors.

When a company decides to go public through an IPO, it hires investment banks or underwriters to facilitate the process. These underwriters help the company determine the IPO price, prepare the necessary regulatory documents and manage the offering process.
