Kazakh IPO changes official fees

The Intellectual Property Office of Kazakhstan introduced changes to certain official fees, which came into effect on September 19, 2022.

The trademark registration fee, which guarantees protection for 10 years, only covers up to three goods/service classes and not all registered classes as before. Each additional class above three now means an additional fee of 21 EUR.

Following recent changes to the IP laws, which provide for an additional five-year extension of the term of protection for commercial designs (for a total maximum term of 25 years as opposed to the previous total maximum of 20 years), the IPO introduced a maintenance fee for the Years 21-25 of the term of protection, the amount of which corresponds to the fee for years 16-20.

Finally, the IPO amended the fee payable to register a name/address change in relation to registered intellectual property rights by removing the phrase “fee per change”. IP right holders now only pay one fee to record all changes to a registered IP right. When recording changes to applications, however, each change is subject to a separate fee.
