Two high-profile public offerings are fueling optimism that the ailing IPO market is thawing after last year’s standstill. The public launches of chip maker ARM Holdings and grocery service provider Instacart have been met with enthusiasm despite a lack of new offerings in recent years.
The initial public offering, or initial public offering, market was red-hot in 2021, setting a record for new issuances worth $156 billion, but plunged 95% to just $9 billion in 2022, remaining relatively flat this year weak. A robust IPO market is critical to economic growth in a market economy, as a source of venture capital for growing companies and to maintaining the supply of publicly traded stocks as a destination for trillions of dollars in pension and 401(k) plans.
