IPO 2022: Biggest, best and worst public offerings of the year

IPO 2022: After a record-breaking performance in 2021, the IPO market delivered mixed returns in 2022. In fact, 2021 was the best year for the Indian IPO market in the past two decades. However, in 2022 the IPO market managed to raise only half the money (approx 60 lakh crore) it generated in the previous year. The main reason for this mixed development of the IPO market in 2022 was geopolitical tensions caused by the Russia-Ukraine crisis at the beginning of 2022, followed by the global economic crisis.

Large public issues such as LIC, Delhivery and AGS Transact Technologies are among the worst-performing IPOs of 2022, trading below 25 percent of their issue price, while IPOs such as Venus Pipes and Tubes, Adani Wilmar, Hariom Pipes Industries and Droneacharya Aerial Innovations IPO Outperformed well after the listing and launched one of the multibagger IPOs on Dalal Street.

As we are about to enter the new year 20253, let’s talk about the initial public offerings (IPOs) that brought hefty profits to their allotmentees, and at the same time we need to talk about the public offerings that are hitting the primary markets and disappearing secondary market after listing .

Best performing IPOs of 2022

As previously mentioned, the public offering of Adani Wilmar, Venus Pipes and Tubes and Droneacharya Aerial Innovations has provided their allotment recipients with excellent returns as these IPOs have doubled their investors’ cash following the listing.

Adani Wilmar IPO was launched in January 2022 at a price range of 218 to 230 per share. The public issue had a positive listing, but Adani Wilmar’s shares have seen a strong upward move after the listing. Adani Wilmar’s share price today is around 617, which is 170 percent higher than its issue price.

Venus Pipes and Tubes IPO was launched in May 2022 at a price range of 310 to 326 pieces. The public issue was listed at a nominal premium, but the stock has enjoyed a dream run since listing. Venus Pipes and Tubes share price is at today 715 each, which is around 120 percent above the asking price.

The Droneacharya Aerial Innovations IPO was offered at a price range of 52-54 per share in December 2022. The public issue traded at a premium of almost 90 percent 102 and has advanced in all six sessions since its listing on December 20, 2022. Aside from these show-stoppers, Veranda Learning Solution, Vedant Fashion, etc. have also delivered hefty returns to their allotment recipients who stayed invested in the scrip post listing.

Largest Listing

Some IPOs are among the newsmakers of 2022 as they were listed at a whopping premium. As mentioned above, the Droneacharya Aerial Innovations IPO traded at a staggering 90 percent premium.

Big losers

However, in some IPOs, investors also lost money. For IPOs like LIC, AGS Transact Technologies, Delhivery, Inox Green Energy, Abans Holdings etc which had weak listing, the stock continued to decline after weak listing.

LIC IPO ranks first when it comes to the big losers of India IPO market in 2022.
