At the end of November, market forecasts suggested that the Fed would begin its rate cutting cycle in May 2024 and target up to five rate cuts by the end of next year.
The Fed's preferred inflation indicator is slowing
The consumer spending price index, known as the Fed's preferred measure of inflation, slowed to an annual rate of 3% in October from 3.4% in September, in line with market expectations. The moderation in inflation further increased the prospect of multiple interest rate cuts in the coming year.
