Indices extend the run of weekly gains

Stocks ended the final day of trading before the Christmas holiday mixed, with all three top U.S. indexes posting gains for an eighth straight week on Friday.

New figures released on Friday suggest inflation has continued to ease. Prices fell in November for the first time in more than three years, private consumption expenditure price index data showed.

Meanwhile, Chinese regulators gave investors in technology stocks like Tencent and NetEase an unwelcome surprise that impacted U.S. trading.

US stocks showed a mixed picture on the day. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted gains while the Dow fell. The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite rose 1.2% this week.

Shares of Nike, the sneaker giant and Dow index, fell after the company cut its sales outlook. Shares of Under Armor and Foot Locker also fell.

Benchmark government bond yields rose. The 10-year yield settled at 3.907% on Friday, ending a second straight week of losses.

Oil prices fluctuated as concerns about Red Sea supplies continued. The benchmark U.S. crude oil price fell, ending the week down 2.5% at $73.56 a barrel.
