©Reuters. How to trade the Nonfarm Payroll Report when the markets are closed on Friday
Benzinga – Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to clarify that the Non-Farm Payrolls report will be released on Friday, April 7th at 8:30am.
The weekly jobs report has the potential to have a significant impact on markets, including the stock, bond and forex markets. But what happens if the report is released on a day when markets are closed, such as Good Friday?
The Nonfarm Payrolls Report is scheduled for release Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
When this happens, investors may be wondering how to trade the report and profit from potential market moves.
One option for trading the jobs report this week is trading the forex markets. The forex markets are open 24 hours a day, five days a week, so you can still trade currencies even when the exchange is closed.
Another option is to trade futures markets. Futures markets are also open outside of regular trading hours. The job report can impact a variety of futures markets, including stock index futures, commodity futures, and currency futures. You can trade these markets on exchanges such as the CME Group or the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).
Finally, you may be able to trade the options markets outside of regular trading hours. Depending on the exchange, you can trade options before and after regular market hours. For example, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) allows extended trading hours for options on certain underlying securities.
You may also trade options on futures contracts which may be traded on futures exchanges outside of normal trading hours.
Keep in mind that trading outside of regular market hours can be riskier than trading during regular business hours. There may be less liquidity, wider bid-offer spreads and increased volatility. It is important to exercise caution and have a sound trading strategy before entering into any trades.
