What are team futures?
Futures refers to any team-based bet on a future event or outcome. These bets are often paid out weeks or even months after they were originally placed. Outright and Super Bowl winner bets are good examples of team futures bets.
What are player futures?
Player futures refer to any player-based wager on a future event or outcome. These bets are often paid out weeks or even months after they were originally placed. Most player futures are based on a specific statistic, with punters determining whether that player is over or under the odds maker’s total. They often start with odds of -110 but are adjusted based on where the majority of the bets are placed.
Types of futures bets
Futures markets offer a variety of betting opportunities. They differ between sportsbooks, but many sportsbooks offer at least some of the same type of futures bets. The most common are championship winners, division/conference winners, and end-of-season awards. Sportsbooks also offer season-long outrights and special offers, e.g. B. who will be the first coach to be fired or who will be the first overall winner. The most popular NFL futures markets are Super Bowl Winner and Most Valuable Player. These odds are released early in the NFL offseason and continually fluctuate through the start of the NFL season and after each game week. The NFL draft has seen a growing futures market that can be very profitable. Sportsbook offers odds on a multitude of NFL draft events such as; B. Over/underpicking, how many cornerbacks will be drafted in the first round, what position the Patriots will pick, etc. Another market that oozes value is seasonal player props.
Futures Quotas
Odds makers must assign a probability to every event in the futures market. They use many strategies to do this, and the process can be technical and objective, or for a market like “Will Kirk Cousins be the Vikings quarterback next year,” the process can be subjective and involve a lot of guesswork. This provides opportunities to find value for bettors. If the Buccaneers have an implied 15% odds of winning the Super Bowl, but you give them a 20% chance, then it makes sense to bet on the Buccaneers in the futures market.
