WASHINGTON, March 30 (Reuters) – Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Chair Susan Collins said Thursday she doesn’t see the market’s current argument for the central bank to cut interest rates this year.
Raising interest rates further and keeping them there for the rest of the year is the monetary policy stance likely to be needed to bring inflation down from levels that are currently too high, Collins told a meeting of the National Association for Business Economics in Washington .
The financial markets are now seeing a series of rate cuts by the Fed through the end of the year.
Collins also said it was “premature” for her to say what the Fed should do at its next policy meeting.
