European equity markets: Consolidated tape gets new impetus

Europe is again pushing for an agreement to create a single stream of trading data for all of its equity markets. Some officials hope that by making some of his most valuable information anonymous, at least one major stumbling block could be overcome.

Talks between European Union member states to agree on the so-called consolidated tape – seen as a key step in reviving ailing equity markets across the region – resume on Wednesday after earlier talks ended in June without an agreement. Their goal is to reach a compromise that can be carried over to the next phase of negotiations with the European Parliament and the European Commission.
