Eurex has received CFTC approval for FTSE bitcoin index futures

Eurex FTSE Bitcoin Index Futures have been approved by the US Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Trading for US-based investors began on May 29, 2023.

The launch of FTSE Bitcoin Index Futures is a major milestone in Eurex’s efforts to provide secure and trusted access to cryptocurrencies in a regulated market environment. Eurex is the first exchange in Europe to offer Bitcoin index futures. US participants can now benefit from additional trading and hedging opportunities and have access to a broader range of participants and liquidity pools during Asian, European and US business hours.

Trading outside the US began on April 17, 2023 and the contract was developed in partnership with FTSE Russell, a leading global index provider, and Digital Asset Research (DAR), its provider of institutional-grade digital asset data.

The new futures contracts will be traded in EUR and USD, with a contract multiplier equal to one bitcoin (BTC) and cash settlement at expiry with no position limits. The agreement represents a step forward in addressing investors’ needs for accurate pricing, transparency and consistency in the digital asset market.

Since launch, more than ten members have already traded hundreds of contracts and more participants are preparing to join. At least five market makers provided order book liquidity during trading hours in Asia, Europe and the US.
