Dow futures and Treasury yields rise – live updates

Index futures fluctuated between modest gains and losses early Thursday after the Nasdaq Composite posted its worst two-day start to the year since 2005. Bond yields, meanwhile, rose slightly as investors weighed the prospect of interest rate cuts in the coming months.

Stock futures fluctuated. Dow futures rose slightly, while contracts tied to the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 slipped.

Bond yields continued their rise. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note neared 4%.

Oil prices rose. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose towards $79 a barrel. The oil market is torn between increasing tensions in the Middle East and record supply from the US

Overseas stocks were mixed. European indexes rose while stocks in Shanghai and Tokyo fell.

The ADP employment report showed the private sector added 164,000 jobs in December, higher than the 130,000 expected.

Weekly jobless claims were at their lowest level since mid-October, suggesting the labor market remains strong.

The monthly report on non-farm payrolls will be published tomorrow.
