Bank of Canada Postpones Bond Auction Due to National Day of Mourning; will support major payment and settlement systems and financial markets
To commemorate the nationwide day of mourning in the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Bank of Canada will announce Monday, May 19
The 10-year bond auction will now take place on Thursday 22 September. Consequently, the 5-year bond auction scheduled for September 22nd will be postponed to Monday September 26th, will take place on Thursday September 15th and will take place on September 19th as previously scheduled. The quarterly bond schedule will be updated to reflect these changes.
The bank will conduct all other regular operations supporting major payment and settlement systems and financial markets on September 19. The Bank of Canada advises that Payments Canada will operate Canada’s clearing and settlement systems on September 19th. As such, the Bank will continue to support these critical financial market infrastructures as normal. In addition, to promote the proper functioning of the Canadian government’s securities market and to support the effective implementation of monetary policy, the Bank will conduct overnight securities repurchase agreements (SROs) and reverse repurchase agreements.
