Angat and Ipo dams in Norzagaray, Bulacan, stopped releasing excess water on Sunday, Jan. 8, as water levels “slowly receded,” the Philippine Atmosphere, Geophysics, and Astronomy Administration (PAGASA) said.
Based on its monitoring, PAGASA said the water level of Angat Dam as of 8 a.m. was 214.02 meters
Angat Dam has a normal high water level of 212 meters.
Although light rains are still expected in Bulacan Dam, PAGASA said the water level in Angat Dam is gradually decreasing.
“All the gates of Angat Dam are now closed and stopped their draining process at 5:30 am today (January 8),” PAGASA said in a flood advisory.
It added that the Ipo Dam has also ceased its phase-out operations.
The current level of the Ipo Dam is 101.21 meters, slightly higher than its normal high water level of 101.0 meters.
However, PAGASA continued to advise the local Disaster Risk Mitigation and Management Office and residents living in low-lying areas and near the banks of the Angat River from Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Paombong and others live Hagonoy to “take appropriate measures caused by the remnants of pluvial floods (flooded roads and farmland) and fluvial floods (river bank erosion)”.
PAGASA, in coordination with the National Power Corporation and the Ipo Dam Management Office, said they will continue to monitor the hydrological status of the Angat River.
