The shift in energy derivatives trading from exchanges to the bilateral market raises concerns about the visibility of potential systemic risks and hedging barriers for smaller participants.
Although wholesale gas prices have fallen since peaking in August last year, the trend away from trading in listed energy futures and into over-the-counter markets has continued this year as companies scramble to avoid a repeat of recent stunning margin calls.
