SSouth Africa distributes alms to 29 million people but receives taxes from only 7.4 million. How can a nation stay afloat when almost half of its 60 million citizens get money from the government?
The government has built over 4 million homes and funded university education for almost a million students. At the same time, power outages are getting worse, inflation isn’t abating and the responsible state monopolies aren’t able to keep up with demand. As a result, the few who can pay taxes flee the country. “The state can no longer afford it,” economist Dawie Roodt told the Daily Investor. “The tax base just isn’t strong enough to support it.”
South Africa’s economic problems have been a long time coming. Many today blame apartheid and racism for it. Radicals like Julius Malema are demanding “economic freedom in our lifetime” by forcibly evicting white farmers from their lands and businesses. Neighboring Zimbabwe is a prime example of how this will only make matters worse. The apartheid regime certainly had its weaknesses. But blaming apartheid for South Africa’s economic woes is simply not factual. The raw data shows this clearly.
In the 1990s, shortly after the end of apartheid, only 5 percent of the population received welfare. Then the African National Congress (anc) took over. It was originally a militant communist group before cleaning up under the late Nelson Mandela and legitimizing itself when it entered government. But the underlying socialist policies continued.
The welfare system “should be shielded from inflationary pressures and expanded to provide basic income where fiscal space allows.” anc has announced. In fact, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu said:
[Social grants are] well, this country cannot afford to have starving people. This country cannot afford to have people who do not have the basics. This country cannot afford to have people who cannot have soap and a washcloth to wash their bodies, toothpaste and toothbrush to brush their teeth, and bread on the table. This country cannot afford that.
Those are very nice sounding words. It’s the same kind of argument that American Democrats make about public welfare. It spent $1.6 trillion on welfare last year even though America owes $31 trillion. The UK is similarly in economic turmoil. These “nice-sounding” actions are unsustainable, whether in the United States, Britain, or South Africa.
All these countries were once prosperous. They are all going through a swift downfall just as prophesied in the Bible.
The Bible describes a special relationship between God and the nation of Israel. God promises blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. Armstrong proved that the descendants of Israel today are the American and British peoples, as well as Australians, Canadians, Dutch South Africans, and others.
As with the United States and the other British Commonwealth countries, South Africa’s success was due to God. But severe curses were prophesied to these nations as punishment for forgetting their special relationship with God.
In 1994, Trumpet editor-in-chief Gerald Flurry wrote, “South Africa is the first Anglo-Saxon nation to give up its God-given birthright.”
South Africa did this when it began to embrace communism and the policies that resulted from it. As analyst Don McAlvany wrote, South Africa was “propelled by leftists, pro-communists and globalists… globalists in the New World Order who see the communisation of South Africa as an important step towards their socialist dream of world government”. They wanted to destroy his earlier links with Britain and instead cement his links with the communist world.
They were successful and today South Africa is reaping the “benefits”. State monopolies are drowning in debt, unemployment is rising, investors are fleeing the country, infrastructure is failing, industry is crumbling, government agencies are teeming with corruption, immorality is rampant and the country is plagued by racist and xenophobic violence.
What is happening is South Africa is a warning to the United States and Britain. The radical left’s obsession with communism and state control will produce catastrophe rather than utopia. By watching what is happening in South Africa, one can get a clear picture of what is about to happen to the Anglo-Saxon world very soon. However, you can escape this terrible future.
