VINCENNES, Indiana (WTHI) – Like many other communities, Vincennes is holding steady as of 2020. Vincennes came into the pandemic with a valuation drop. Because of this, projects already seemed to be on hold. The pandemic made things worse.
News 10 had the opportunity to meet with Mayor Joe Yochum on Monday. He says things are looking a lot better in 2022.
Local businesses were one area that held up well. A total of around $400,000 has been allocated to help these companies stay afloat.
As for the city, Yochum credits local departments with holding the line to keep the city in the black.
To support the reconstruction, the city is launching “Volunteer Vincennes. That hopes to give people a chance to help.
Vincennes will receive over $3 million in US bailout funds. This funding aims to address some of the issues that were put on hold early in the pandemic.
Yochum says, “Most of the infrastructure is designed to help build housing. Vincennes is no different from any other in the country. We really have very little living space. We’re working hard on it. I think we have four or five housing projects going on now.”
