PANAMA CITY, March 16 (Reuters) – Panama’s economy grew 13.5% last year year-on-year, the Central American country’s Comptroller-General said on Thursday, reporting gross domestic product (GDP) of 76.52 billion Panamanian Balboas ( $76.5 billion). .
“Economic activity continued to recover throughout the year thanks to the controlled pandemic, which allowed the economy to fully open up despite a fourth wave of COVID-19 earlier in the year and external factors such as higher fuel prices. which also led to protests,” it said in a statement.
The manufacturing, electricity, construction, trade, real estate and corporate sectors all performed positively during the year, the bureau said, although manufacturing and goods and services related to private education declined.
