UMaine MARINE to host an event highlighting the importance of the blue economy to Maine – UMaine News

The University of Maine’s MARINE initiative will host a panel of state leaders to define and discuss Maine’s blue economy. This event will take place virtually on November 18th at 12:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

During the event, UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy will make remarks.

The panel consists of state stakeholders, including civil servants, business people, and community leaders. Heather Johnson, Commissioner for the Maine Department of Economic Community Development, is one of the stakeholders. Johnson is committed to promoting economic development in both private businesses and rural communities across Maine. She includes Curt Brown of Ready Seafood, Alex de Koning of Hollander and de Koning, and Kate Dempsey of The Nature Conservancy in Maine.

The event will be moderated by Caroline Noblet, Associate Professor at the School of Economics at the University of Maine. Noblet explores Maine’s changing environmental and economic landsc -e.

The UMaine MARINE Steering Committee faculty will be on hand to answer questions about how UMaine is doing the Blue Economy and how it could continue to support the Blue Economy.

Citizens, participants from industry and business and interested parties are invited. This is a unique opportunity to learn and contribute about the Maine Blue Economy.
