TYLER, Texas — Food, food, food, that’s what people think about when they head to the town of Tyler for the weekend. It has become an important pillar of the city’s growing economy and tourism.
“It’s vital, the restaurant community here is constantly growing and changing.”
said Sheridan Smith, vice president of marketing for the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. “When a tourist comes to Tyler, the first thing they want to know is where I can go? Where can I eat well? Where can I take my family?”
Smith said people flocked to downtown Tyler for live music and food. She said weekends are always busy at ETX Brewing Company, Rick’s on the Square and other downtown restaurants.
“People are always so excited to go and then have their evening and Andy’s at the end,” Smith said.
Downtown Tyler isn’t the only area with busy weekend restaurants. A new restaurant called INKA’s Peruvian Latin Cuisine opened in town over the weekend.
The owner is also a chef himself and didn’t have time to speak to CBS19, but a customer from Peru said the food met her expectations.
“I’m very fortunate that a Peruvian restaurant came to Tyler, Texas, and I’m so lucky to have a piece of my country here so I can come whenever I want,” said Jessica Allred, who is based in Tyler lives.
Allred said she saw the restaurant’s commercial on TV and had to try it with her husband, where they found it was delicious.
Another new restaurant near Loop 323 and Broadway Avenue called Ichiban Ramen opened its soft opening Thursday. Owner Abi Ismanto said he learned a lot about Japanese and Korean culture while in Denver and used this restaurant to introduce Tyler to it.
“We really care about the broth because Japanese food is all about the broth and the noodles,” Ismanto said. “Then the toppings are like a decoration point. It’s all really important. It’s all connected.”
Ichiban Ramen will be hosting its grand opening on May 2nd, but until then the restaurant is open and ready to welcome the public.
