These are some of the most notable moments for the creator economy in 2022, a year that has had plenty of wild headlines, even as some enthusiasm – and funding – has faded. Here are our favorites in descending order.

  • MrBeast is targeting a valuation of $1.5 billion. This quarter, we didn’t see any vibrant creator economy startups becoming unicorns or surpassing $1 billion in valuation, but we did see one creator striving to achieve that status. Axios reported in October that Jimmy Donaldson, better known by his YouTube handle MrBeast, is trying to raise $150 million for his company at a $1.5 billion valuation. It was a remarkable moment because it shows how big some creators’ brands can become outside of the social media apps that made them famous. The rise of MrBeast coincides with other top creators including TikToker Addison Rae starting companies and shows.
