Back in 2019, The Indicator began contacting Venezuelan economist Gabriela Saade. The economy was in free fall. The country suffered from hyperinflation and a huge increase in poverty.
Today, the U.S. is facing a surge in migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border, many from Venezuela. So let's get in touch with Gabriela again. Elections are scheduled to take place in Venezuela in July. We ask Gabriela and two other Venezuelans: What are the economic conditions currently? How has life changed since the pandemic? Some of the answers surprised us.
