According to news reports, the economy is doing well and inflation is falling.

I don't feel it. A bag of groceries hurts more than my back.

I had to cut out too many of my favorite foods. Mostly junk food, but isn't junk food one of the joys of life?

The cats eat way too much and use the cat litter too often. Don't they understand that these things cost money? What do they do all day other than eat, sleep, poop? When I buy cheap food, I'm afraid it's unhealthy. When I buy good food, my budget is blown.

Every day I see reports that the economy is doing well. Who feels this? Tell me.

It's too early to start my vegetable garden so I can feed myself instead of Costco feeding me.

By the way, who eats the food samples offered at Costco? I have never eaten a sample meal offered at any store. I think it might be a germ thing. Rehearsals just scare me.

I'm also afraid of pancake restaurants. When I was in my 20s, I worked at one. My husband at the time worked at a radio station and made $50 a week. My salary including tips at the pancake place was $40 a week. When Legionnaires' disease broke out a long time ago, my husband became ill. I was sick too, but we needed the money to pay our $90/month rent. He stayed home and I went to work. Sick. While serving my customers, I ran to the restroom where I got sick, washed my hands, and ran back to the kitchen to deliver another order. I did that all day. I've often wondered how many people I made sick while trying to earn that all-important $40.

There were other nightmares I could tell about this pancake house, so many that I imposed a lifetime ban on them.

Back to the economy: When the Russians invaded Ukraine and the US gave aid to the Ukrainians, I was happy to help, even if it meant that prices here would go up and I would be affected. Last week, a bill tying Ukraine funding to the border and immigration faced objections after Donald Trump urged his GOP supporters to oppose the bill unless it was amended to address immigration . In my opinion, cutting aid to Ukraine would not be a good step. The world doesn't need Putin to level Ukraine or any other country. I will continue to make sacrifices (high food prices, etc.) to help Ukraine win against Russia.

This is my soapbox place. I'm not a political person, but I have strong beliefs and sometimes I need to make them known.

What can a girl do? …choose! And be more creative with how I can maximize my money.
