BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) – Hunting season not only brings hunters to the Imperial Valley, but also helps support the economy.
Tarek Danaf gearing up for a long morning, he’s one of hundreds of hunters who have descended on the Imperial Valley this week for a reason.
“We’re just out here to distract ourselves from the daily stresses of life, we like to do that,” he said.
For others, it’s more than just a hobby, it’s a family tradition.
Sam Assaf says he has been hunting since he was a child.
“My dad is a hunter, my grandpa was a hunter and I think that runs in the family too,” he said.
The season also helps with the economy as hundreds of hunters flock to the Imperial Valley from across California.
Las Chabelas is a restaurant in Brawley, the owner says business is good when hunters are in town. Erika Weir is the owner and says her restaurant can cook and clean the pigeons for hunters.
“We cook them in a sauce, our own special sauce for the pigeons,” she said.
Weir says she’s looking forward to this time of year.
“Hunters are coming, it’s improving the business and the overall economy, for us we’re busy and for servers, you know they benefit too,” she said.
As for Sam and Tarek, they hit their limit for the day and say they could come back for round two next weekend.
