Nuevo Leon Gov. Samuel Garcia has asked Tesla Inc. to soon announce the start of construction of its planned factory in the Mexican state, national newspaper El Financiero reported.
“I asked Tesla to come by no later than March to announce the laying of the cornerstone and they didn't tell me no,” Garcia said on Saturday at the inauguration of a leisure project in the area of the La Huasteca eco-park in Santa Catarina, where Tesla plans to build its factory .

“I hope the company comes very soon, in less than a month,” he said.
Construction of the Nuevo Leon factory that would produce Tesla's cheaper next-generation vehicles has been delayed due to Elon Musk's concerns about the global economy. Other issues, including permitting delays and a lack of infrastructure, have also marred the process.
Tesla plans to build a cheaper, next-generation electric vehicle at the Gigafactory, helped in part by $153 million in local government incentives. Musk last year called for Nuevo Leon to improve electricity, water and transportation in the area before construction begins.
Musk said in October that he was not ready to go “full speed” on the facility because of high interest rates. He also said that Tesla will produce its entry-level next-generation vehicle at its Texas factory before its Mexican factory because the new factory will not be ready on time.
