Tanzania expects an economic recovery in 2023

NAIROBI, April 28 (Reuters) – Tanzania’s economy is expected to grow faster this year compared to last year, but performance could be dampened by the impact of the war in Ukraine, Finance Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said in a letter to the International Monetary Fund.

In the April 4 letter, released Friday, Nchemba said the economy is expected to grow about 5.2% in 2023, compared to 4.7% a year earlier.

“We expect that in the near future the economy will continue to face headwinds from the impact of the war in Ukraine,” he said.

Tanzania’s economy relies on tourism, mining and agriculture, among others.
