Transport Ministers Hadi Sirika; his aviation counterpart, Mu’azu Sambo, and experts were lined up to discuss actions needed to salvage Nigeria’s economy through the country’s various modes of transport.
The industry experts will outline these measures at the Abuja Transport and Aviation Correspondents Association Seminar 2022 next month in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The seminar, entitled “Nigeria’s Troubled Economy: Aviation, Rail, Maritime As Rescue Sectors.” is being organized by ATACA with its industry partners to provide the necessary response to the country’s current economic quagmire.
In a statement yesterday by ATACA Chairman Chris Agabi, the association said the seminar was intended to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss strategies through which the transport sector would significantly impact and salvage the Nigerian economy.
Sirika and Sambo are the main hosts of the seminar, while the Minister of State for Transport, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, is the host.
According to Agabi, Dr. Francis Ntamu, Cross River State Chief Economic Adviser, who was once the private sector specialist for the African Development Bank, was the guest speaker at the all-important seminar.”
He said the rise in Nigerian inflation, coupled with the local currency’s plummeting against the US dollar and the collapse in the country’s oil production due to massive oil theft, has led to economic instability across the country.
Agabi said there have been calls for economic diversification and the need to explore other ways to increase the country’s revenues to address economic instability.
“Experts have said that if the right measures are taken, the transport sectors could help rescue the struggling economy.
“In this regard, a group of journalists covering the sector have found it necessary to engage the relevant stakeholders and industry players, both in the public and private sectors, to reflect on how to proceed.”
The seminar will also witness insightful presentations from the Nigerian Shippers Council, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Nigeria Ports Authority, Nigeria Railway Corporation and others.
