Singapore Airlines announces updates to premium economy service

SING`ORE – Singapore Airlines announced updates to its premium economy service offering. Changes include 175 new menu items and all-new tableware, as well as a new amenity kit, available upon request on flights of seven hours or more, designed by US sustainable lifestyle company Out of the Woods.

The airline introduced its premium economy cabin in 2015, which features more spacious seats and better service compared to the traditional economy product. Thursday's announcement represents the first major overhaul of service offerings in the classroom.

According to Betty Wong, division manager of in-flight service and design at Singapore Airlines, the airline's changes to its premium economy offerings were based on customer feedback that showed the food and beverage options were the best for most customers who decided to book The most important decision factor was premium economy tickets.

“Taste, choice and food portions are the key factors that contribute to premium economy class customers' onboard dining experience,” Wong said in a presentation to media in Singapore on Thursday. “Customers will be able to enjoy a fine dining experience on board that includes: improved and expanded selection of beverage options, a new amenity kit, the return of our printed menu so customers can view all food offerings available on board.”

Menu updates include new wine and champagne offerings, a larger selection of teas and dishes such as grilled beef tenderloin, seafood hor fun, lamb biryani and many new desserts.

The new services will be introduced on flights from March 31st. The airline has not announced any new seat designs or layouts as part of the changes.

According to Singapore Airlines, premium economy is available on 42% of its flights, including to Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, San Francisco and Seattle.

Singapore Airlines' fare calendar shows that premium economy tickets will typically cost between $2,000 and $4,000 round-trip on U.S. routes in the coming months.
