US Senator Ted Cruz toured the Oil City Iron Works with State Representative Cody Harris and US Congressman Jake Ellzey during his visit to Navarro County Monday.
Both Harris and Ellzey represent Navarro County.
Cruz, who is seeking his third term, then stopped at Collin Street Bakery off I-45 to discuss jobs, the economy, perceived failings of the Biden administration and his re-election in 2024. Strong supporters turned out to hear the senator’s speech.
Hosts are Bakery Owners Bob and Thomas McNutt and Corsicana City Council, Pct. 3 Corsican citizen Chris Woolsey spent over an hour interacting with Senator Cruz and asking questions about the latest news from our country’s capital. Collin Street Bakery leadership expressed their desire to host an event with Senator Cruz, where all were welcome and invited, showcasing the best of Corsica.
Cruz said jobs are the reason people move to Texas. “Since my first election in 2012, more than four million people have moved to Texas,” he said.
He spoke about the Inflation Reduction Act, which came into effect in August 2022. Nearly a year after its passage, a Navigator research report found that nearly two-thirds of respondents supported certain aspects of the law.
Lowering the price of insulin and prescription drugs through Medicare negotiations were two of the more popular initiatives included in the bill.
Cruz said that without Texas and Florida, the country would have been completely shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We said no, we go back to school and work while we take care of the sick,” he said.
The Centers for Disease Control counted 47,669 Texan deaths in 2021 related to COVID-19. In 2020 there were 33,542 COVID-related deaths.
Cruz also said that since taking office, the Biden administration has been wrong on every domestic and foreign policy decision.
The Houston-area Republican highlighted inflation and energy independence as two areas where the Biden administration has failed domestically.
He also noted that the United States is losing respect around the world.
He mentioned that behind President Trump he was the main target of the left. “The left will fund this race to defeat me,” he said.
“A ham sandwich would fetch a million dollars,” Cruz said.
Cruz wowed the crowd in attendance: “I need the help of people like every one of you here, I expect the 2024 election to be a fight.” “Texas is going blue,” he said, “and 1,000 people are moving in every day the state. It will be up to rural Texans to help keep Texas, Texas alive.”
Senator Cruz expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming welcome in Corsicana and spoke enthusiastically of the opportunity to spend quality time at an event where the doors are open to the public.
After his speech, Senator Cruz stayed for almost an hour answering individual questions, giving personal attention and time to everyone present.
Cruz defeated Democrat Beto O’Rourke in 2018 by 200,000 votes, or 2.6 percent.
He will face the winner of the Democratic Senate primary in November 2024. So far, nine Democrats have indicated they intend to run against Cruz.
The submission deadline is in December.
