Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious goal of reaching India’s $5 trillion economy “joke” and “stupid,” Telangana Prime Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday the goal should have been much bigger.
Responding to the Appropriation Bill debate in the State Assembly, Rao, also known as KCR, lashed out at Modi, saying the whole country expects the prime minister to say something on the Adani issue in parliament, but people are disappointed.
The Prime Minister, referring to an article in an international magazine, said that during the Congress rule there was “License Raj” while in the current government there was “Silence Raj”.
“By 2023-24 Modi said that India will become a $5 trillion economy. That $5 trillion (economy) itself is a joke. Really silly. At least our goal should be big. We should dare to dream. This 5 trillion (economy). Target) itself is very very lower, of which only $3.5 trillion has been achieved,” KCR said.
Meanwhile, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, leader of the BJP Telangana unit and a Lok Sabha member, accused the chief minister of allegedly abusing the state assembly to “bash” Prime Minister Modi.
Instead of explaining the developments in Telangana and the promises of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), KCR has sought to abuse and attack the BJP and Modi on the floor of the august House of Representatives, Kumar said, according to a press release.
According to the BJP leader, Rao tried to mislead the people by reviving sentiment in Telangana by accusing the center of not giving funds to the state.
Kumar interjected a challenge, saying the BJP is ready for a full debate on what the center has done for Telangana and how much money it has given the state compared to what the BRS government has done for the people of the state. have made available for the last nine years.
Comparing the UPA and NDA governments, KCR said the country has lost miserably in every sector and Telangana in particular has lost about Rs 3 lakh crore in terms of gross domestic product (GSDP).
“Indian banks and also LIC have invested in this company (Adani Group). The whole world was watching Modi for what he would say (on Adani’s issues). He didn’t even say a word on the subject. He was beating around the bush,” KCR said, tearing up the NDA government.
Rao scoffed at the argument that India has become the world’s fifth largest economy, saying it is the per capita ratio that needs to be considered to assess a country’s performance.
He said when it comes to per capita income, countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan are ahead of India.
Rao denounced some people who were going to the Supreme Court to seek a ban on the `, which recently aired a controversial program about the 2002 Gujarat riots.
KCR claimed that the NDA government is involved in the “endless privatization of public sector companies” and said the central government’s policy appears to be “socialization of losses and privatization of profits”.
“Modi says the government has no business to do business with. I say the government has every right to do business wherever it takes it. The government is out of business, meaning it is shirking the responsibilities entrusted to it by the Indian people. We should share the responsibility . You can’t dismiss it,” he said.
KCR claimed that 20,000 people renounced their Indian citizenship during the NDA regime.
The premier also ridiculed Modi for launching the Vande Bharat Express whenever a new train was launched, saying there are better trains like the Rajdhani Express in the country.
Rao highlighted the alleged failure of the NDA center government, questioning why the country has “water wars” when it is available in abundance, and attributing “poor water policies” to successive center governments.
He also claimed that states were forced to import coal even when the raw material was plentiful in the country.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Assembly was adjourned indefinitely.
