One passenger went to extreme lengths to set up a VIP area in economy class – and while many call it “brilliant”, others have concerns.
Giga Vashakidze, from California, was on a flight from San Diego to Venice, Italy, when he noticed the passenger sitting next to him was using a blanket to provide the highest level of privacy.
The stowed passenger had stowed part of the blue blanket in the overhead compartment and let it hang down so no one could see the row.
Stunned by the act, Giga recorded and posted a video on TikTok asking fellow passengers if they’d seen anything like this before.
“I caught my neighbor turning economy class into a VIP area. Has anyone else experienced this on their flight?” he asked, adding a laughing emoji.
The clip was viewed half a million times and many were impressed by the passenger’s VIP program.

“GENIUS,” one person demanded.
“Oh my god this is really awesome,” agreed another.
Others called it “smart” and were dying to try it on their next economy flight.

However, some were shocked that the airline let their passenger get away with it.
“WTH? Why is the airline allowing this?” one person asked.
“Nothing surprises me about people anymore,” wrote another.
One person hit back, saying, “What’s wrong with that? They don’t hurt anyone,” with some suggesting there might be emergency issues.
“I suspect an emergency evacuation could pose a problem,” explained one person.
“That’s a great idea. They don’t do anything wrong for me and I have their privacy too,” said another, while a third added, “For security reasons, I can’t imagine that’s allowed.”
Giga didn’t share any further details on whether the passenger was forced to take it off.
