How democracies can shape a changed world economy

The shockwaves of war in Europe have exposed long-standing challenges within the global order and raised questions about how countries can stand together at a time of rising geopolitical tensions to protect their economic interests, maintain peace and prosperity for their citizens, and promote trade .

On Tuesday, October 11, as part of the Foreign Policy program in Brookings, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Treasury Secretary Chrystia Freeland will discuss the war’s impact on the international economic order and how the world’s democracies can respond through new economic partnerships benefit their people.

Suzanne Maloney, Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy at Brookings, will moderate the conversation. Following the talk, Freeland will take questions from the audience.

This event is part of the Alan and Jane Batkin International Leaders Forum, which brings world leaders and other officials to Brookings for a thoughtful exchange of views on critical political issues of the day.
