BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) – Between music, food trucks and outdoor activities, there was plenty to do Saturday at the second annual BG Rally on Main.
Not only does the event bring people in the community together for a day of fun, but local business owners from Bowling Green tell 13abc that the event was actually created to bring more BGSU students downtown.
“It was very busy,” said Laura Miller, co-owner of Joyful Creations.
“Sometimes they don’t come downtown until junior or senior year because pretty much everything is available on campus,” said Ben’s Crafts owner Floyd Craft. “So it started encouraging them to come downtown and it worked last year and I think it will work this year.”
Because the main street was closed, people had easier access to all the small businesses on that stretch of street, which ultimately helped boost the local economy.
“We had 13 people here at one point, and that’s huge for us,” said Gayle Brim, co-owner of Joyful Creations. “It doesn’t happen often.”
“Business is twice as good or better on days like this,” Craft said.
“It also raises our hopes because you know small businesses need the support,” Miller said.
