The three-day event is also expected to draw 40,000 people to the Greater Columbus Convention Center this weekend.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — After more than two years, Jorge Carhel is excited to stock his booth.
He holds about two years’ worth of stock due to COVID.
All of this will be on display in full at GalaxyCon this weekend.
“It’s a great experience to be able to come back to real life and not have the virtual disadvantages or virtual online play,” he said.
The three-day event is expected to host around 40,000 people and pump around $2 million into Columbus through restaurants, hotels and shopping, making GalaxyCon the largest event of its kind in Ohio, according to organizers.
Like Carhel, Fernando Sanchez is one of 450 salespeople who are grateful to be back in person.
“It’s just great to see where people are coming from, and pretty much all of the background does it really well,” Sanchez said.
But arguably nobody is more excited in person than Ashley Eckstein.
For all Star Wars fans, Eckstein is the voice of Ahsoka Tano. She is the two lightsabers wielded by Togruta from the Clone Wars and Rebels.
Personal contact is what counts for them.
“The answer for me is simple,” she said. “It’s the fans.”
She loves seeing the faces and the smiles and the feeling of normality after a pandemic.
“Everyone went through it,” she said. “There is no one who has been untouched by COVID over the past few years. We have all experienced trauma in some way or we know someone who has experienced trauma. And the most important thing we can do now is be kind and help people.”
