Egyptian expats in US to support local economy with US$2 billion

The Egyptian community in the United States of America has launched the “Be Positive, Egyptian” initiative to support the Egyptian economy by sending US$200 from every Egyptian abroad to the Central Bank of Egypt.

One of the initiative’s founders and Vice President of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad in America, Essam Eddin Bassiouni, said the initiative aims to support the Egyptian people.

“We’re trying to feed the central bank $2 billion,” he promised.

He stressed that the initiative is aimed at all Egyptians, whether they agree or disagree with the government’s performance in dealing with the economic crisis, as its main objective is to support Egypt and its people.

The initiative was welcomed by Egyptian communities abroad.

Egyptian expatriate Safwat Youssef demanded that the General Association of Egyptians Abroad, through its branches in many countries, as an official body, should conduct a fundraising campaign and make donations officially and publicly to make a mark on other entities.
