Economy and Trade Minister meets with Spanish Ambassador

Economy and Trade Minister Mohamed Hwej met with Spanish Ambassador Javier Garcia-Larrache on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli.

The meeting took place as part of tracking and activating the progress of economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

Economy Minister Hwej stressed the importance of cooperation and that the Tripoli-based Libyan government strives for economic and commercial stability, noting the need to activate the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded between the two countries and adapt them to international changes in the economic sphere and trade

Food inspection
The minister called for strengthening cooperation in the field of food security, particularly in the agricultural and livestock sectors, and to benefit from the Spanish experience in collaboration with the competent authorities.

He urged the Spanish ambassador to urge Spanish companies to return to work in Libya, take advantage of investment opportunities and develop partnerships with the Libyan private sector.

Important role of the commercial attaché
Hwej pointed out the importance of the commercial attaché’s role in overcoming all difficulties in economic and commercial activities in direct coordination with the Libyan Embassy in Spain.

Finally, the Minister of Economy and Trade invited the Spanish Trade Minister to visit Libya.

30 Spanish companies returned to Libya
For his part, the Spanish ambassador expressed the desire of the Spanish government to develop trade and economic relations with Libya, noting the return of more than 30 companies to work in Libya and that the embassy is working on the issue of visas to facilitate business owners.
