Economists polled by the WSJ expect the US economy to enter recession in 2023

Link Stocks| In the Wall Street Journal’s latest quarterly survey, economists said that although inflation is beginning to ease, they still expect the US economy to be pushed into recession in 2023 by high interest rates and a recession in the next 12 months at 61%, down slightly from 63% in the October survey. Both percentages are historically high outside of the current recession.

The Federal Reserve (Fed) originally hoped to achieve lower inflation with a slowdown in economic growth, which has been described as a “soft landing” rather than a contraction in the economy. However, 75% of respondents said the Fed will not achieve a soft landing for the economy this year.
