ATLANTA (WSAV) – Last year, Georgia boasted 160,000 jobs, mostly in education, healthcare services, hospitality and financial services.
“Georgia was ranked as the #1 state for business, but Georgia is in the electric vehicle industry, driving Rivian and projects across the state of Georgia,” said Rep. Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus).
Since 2020, Georgia has invested $21 billion in electric vehicle projects employing more than 27,000 people, including Rivian and Hyundai plants.
Rep. Hugley told News 3: “We are bringing several new businesses and thousands of jobs to support the EV industry. I think you will see a lot of activity over the next few years.”

State Assemblyman Mark Newton (R-Augusta) said, “If you can get a technical education that you need for an advanced manufacturing job and you can make a lot of advancements in Georgia.”
State lawmakers say part of this is continuing to offer tax incentives to lure companies into and investigate industries that would create jobs in Georgia, like manufacturing and entertainment.
“One of the things about the film industry is the tax credit, and it works,” said State Senator Harold Jones II (D-Augusta). .”

Other lawmakers say it will not only bring jobs, but also provide funds for transportation, affordable housing and internet connectivity.
Rep. Hugley stated, “The companies that come here — to have housing that supports them, a strong education system, so they want to bring their employees here.”
Gov. Brian Kemp says the state has collected more than $20 billion in taxpayer money from corporations — an increase of about 6% from a year ago.
