(MENAFN) According to the latest report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Iran’s gross domestic product (GDP) based on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) has increased by USD 141 billion, reaching USD 1.596 trillion in 2022. The report ranks Iran as the 22nd largest economy in the world, outperforming the economies of 171 other countries. Given the severe sanctions imposed on Iran’s economy, this is a significant achievement that signals the country’s resilience and strength.
The World Bank’s Economic Update report for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), released in April 2023, forecast 2 percent growth in Iran’s economy for the year. While 15 countries in the MENA region are expected to show lower economic growth in 2023 than in the previous year, the World Bank is forecasting growth of three percent for the region’s economy. With growth of 2.7 percent in the previous year, Iran is one of the countries that will experience the smallest slump in economic growth in 2023.
The World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects (GEP) report, released in January 2023, forecast that Iran’s economy will grow by 2.2 percent in 2023, despite the sharp, prolonged slowdown in the global economy. The report highlighted the broad-based deterioration in the global economy in virtually every region around the world this year, with per capita income growth expected to be slower than in the decade leading up to COVID-19.
Despite challenges from sanctions and a struggling global economy, Iran’s economy continues to show resilience and growth. The IMF’s latest report, which ranks Iran as the 22nd largest economy in the world in 2022, underscores the country’s strength despite the sanctions. The World Bank’s forecasts of two percent growth in the Iranian economy for 2023 also speak for a stable economic situation in the country.
