Delta offers AmsterdamRunway Girl an unforgettable economy experience

On U.S. domestic flights, Delta Air Lines is known for setting itself apart from other major airlines by offering seatback IFE and free Wi-Fi on most mainline aircraft (with free Wi-Fi now also available on its Boeing 717 sub-fleet and regional jets is). ).

But Delta is also no problem internationally, as the airline continues to show a recent overnight flight from Minneapolis Saint-Paul to Amsterdam. Even in economy class, your author enjoyed a sophisticated product supported by excellent and professional crew members.

My ground experience with Delta was efficient. When I arrived in Minneapolis Saint-Paul on a connecting flight, I went straight to the gate where boarding was already underway.

Since I was the second to last group to board, I took a seat and waited patiently for my turn. After about 10 minutes I was invited to board and was warmly greeted by the crew as I entered the Airbus A330-900neo.

As I walked through the long 2-4-2 economy class cabin of the A330-900neo, I was struck by how traditional the aircraft looked. Although it was almost brand new, the cabin aesthetic was reminiscent of something from the 2000s, with rows of blue-gray seats and plain white walls with no accents.

My seat (51B) was comfortable enough with adequate legroom for this 193cm tall journalist, and the in-seat IFE screen was large, bright and sharp. There was a power outlet for the two window seats and each had its own vents.

As the boarding progressed, the crew demonstrated excellent cabin management skills. They helped passengers stow their carry-on luggage in the overhead compartments and remained polite and calm – even if some passengers were less than polite to them.

This level of professionalism and, to be honest, crowd control made the entire boarding experience feel relaxed and safe and I immediately felt at ease.

After boarding was complete, I checked my equipment. Each seat had a cushion and bedding that felt disposable but was of much better quality than the SkyTeam partner KLM I experienced on the Amsterdam-New York JFK route.

The Delta crew then provided earplugs, an eye mask, and disposable headphones upon request, demonstrating an admirable commitment to sustainability. Unfortunately, the articles were distributed while the safety video was playing on the seatback screen, distracting me from the content.

The video itself was based around a theatrical performance and seemed to focus more on visual effects than safety instructions.

Following the video, I inspected the IFE. This is where Delta really shined for me! There weren't just all the current blockbusters Oppenheimer And Barbiebut it also contained a treasure trove of cult classics from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

As a frequent traveler, I like to watch films during flights that I wouldn't watch at home. In short, I appreciate the solid curation of IFE content. At Delta, I wasn't busy rewatching a 2023 blockbuster. I chose the epitome of a queer film But I'm a cheerleader, what kept me captivated. I also considered using the $40 Wi-Fi, but since I didn't need to deliver any urgent results, I didn't feel the need given the 600+ content choices in the IFE system.

Shortly after takeoff, food service began. As is usual in business, I was among the first to receive the vegetarian meal I had pre-ordered, an Asian-inspired medley of pickled cucumber salad, paneer curry and mango-pineapple fruit salad to finish.

It was served in individual containers on a light tray with bamboo wrapping. Overall, it was warm and filling and went well together.

The drinks were served shortly afterwards with the main service and I enjoyed some canned bubbly. It was sweet but had notes of peach and stone fruit, well above KLM's beverage service, which doesn't include sparkling wine in economy class.

Six hours from Amsterdam, the crew finished the service and dimmed the lights. I tried to get some sleep, but the cabin was surprisingly very cold and I had to put my sweater back on to rest. Still, I managed to snag a few decent hours! Throughout the flight, the crew walked around the cabin checking on passengers. There was a snack bar in the aft galley.

Approximately 90 minutes before landing, the lights were raised and the crew began breakfast service, which consisted of a cheese pizza, tea and coffee, and a pre-landing chocolate. The twist had quite a strong flavor for such an early hour, but was still tasty and warm. What's notable is that the crew left it with cheerfulness.

When we landed in Amsterdam, I concluded that Delta offers a very compelling economy class service across the proverbial pond.

On this flight, the crew members were friendly and welcoming, but remained professional. I really felt at home on board.

Secondly, the IFE service was a joy to use thanks to the many unique content offerings.

Finally, the onboard food and beverage service was generous, with a full bar and great snacks available throughout the flight. Even in economy class I felt like I was in good hands, even though I was perhaps sitting in one of the cheapest seats!

Overall, Delta delivered an unforgettable full-service economy experience that shined despite the seemingly old-fashioned cabin design.
