Dar praises the UAE’s support for Pakistan’s economy

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – German Finance Minister and Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of Pakistan’s key economic partners.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to fraternal relations with the UAE,” the minister added.
The minister expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation from Etisalat International led by Mikhail Gerchuk, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) CEO e & International.
The delegation consisted of Abdulrahim Abdulla Abdulrahim Al Nooryani, CEO Etisalat Pakistan; Hatem Bamatraf, President and CEO of PTCL and Ufone; and Kamal Shehadi, Chief Strategy e& International, said a press release published here.
Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ayesha Ghous Pasha, S`M for Finance Tariq Bajwa, S`M for Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Minister of Finance, Secretary of IT and Telecom, and senior officials from Finance and Privatization departments attended the meeting.
Treasury Secretary Senator Ishaq Dar welcomed the delegation and highlighted the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Pakistan and the UAE.
Recalling his meetings with Etisalat in Abu Dhabi and Dubai during his recent visit to the UAE, Ishaq Dar underlined the importance of resolving outstanding issues between Etisalat and the Privatization Commission and moving forward with a mutually beneficial solution.
He also highlighted prospects for foreign investment in Pakistan, particularly in the fast-growing IT and telecom sectors, saying the government provides a favorable environment and facilities to attract foreign investment.
Mikhail Gerchuk, CEO of e& International, briefed the meeting on the company’s profile and future investments in Pakistan, and expressed his willingness to continue investing in the country’s IT and telecom sectors.
Both sides agreed to proceed in a spirit of goodwill to resolve all outstanding issues between Etisalat and the Privatization Commission.
