Boris Johnson rushes back to the UK in BA Economy

British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned a few days ago. When former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson heard the resignation, he raced back home on British Airways.

The ex-premier spent a few weeks vacation on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic. When he heard that Liz Truss was stepping down as Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister, he told his allies that he would run again to lead the country.

How did he come back? That’s the fun part.

On October 21, 2022, he cut short his vacation and rushed his family to the Punta Cana airport. He took a British Airways flight BA2156 via Antigua and Barbuda to London Gatwick. The aircraft had three cabins with no First Class, but Boris Johnson and his family were seated in seat 34K in the rear of Economy, decked out in a suite.

Regardless of travel class or dress code, fellow passengers said he and his family were treated as VIPs, such as at pre-boarding. Skynews correspondent Mark Stone said:

Several passengers looked “slightly confused” and there were a few boos, adding: “Mr Johnson is seated in economy class, quite a way back on the plane, with his wife and children – one of his children is climbing on top of him.

“He’s wearing a suit, head forward, deep in thought, but just before that one of his kids climbed on top of him – a family returning from vacation.”

Apparently he was uncomfortable with little legroom in British Airways Economy Class. The British Airways B777-200 World Traveler seat is just 31 inches pitch and 18.1 inches wide. Considering Johnson’s size, the seat will be quite cramped for him on the 8-hour drive back to London.

Thousands watch Boris Johnson fly

Upon hearing of Johnson’s return, not only were passengers at the airport interested, but members of the flight-tracking community were watching his flight home. At the moment Johnson returned to London, the BA2156 was the most followed flight on Flightradar24.com.

Boris Johnson’s decision to take economy class

British Airways currently flies to Punta Cana twice a week on its Boeing B777-200 aircraft. Since it only runs twice a week, utilization is relatively high. As you can see below, business class is sold out leaving some economy seats left this Friday.

I’m sure there could be at least one last business class seat available on the day Boris Johnson left for the UK. For all his wealth, he could have taken other airlines like Air France or American Airlines with first and business class. But why would he choose an economy class seat?

Regardless of whether he had a seat or not, I think he was well aware of the public mood. To show the people of the UK that he is a servant of the people.

summary

Boris Johnson became an internet sensation when reports circulated about his flight home on British Airways Economy. He and his family cut short their vacation in the Dominican Republic and raced back to Britain after Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned.

Unfortunately, Rishi Sunak won the race to become Britain’s next prime minister, and all his hustle and bustle in Britain came to nothing.
