Bloomberg New Economy: Forum participants see good weather in bad climate

The key takeaway from three days of discussions between world economic, business and financial leaders at Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum this week is a sense of gloom. The world is hunkering down, hoping to weather an incoming storm while preparing for potential shocks.

There was, of course, relief that the US and China are talking to each other again and that Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping will meet in person next week. It was also positive news for the participants that China has given new impetus to its economy. And it helps that the Federal Reserve appears to be almost at the end of its fight against inflation.
